Service Expansion Program
Orange County, California

The MSEP will result in a substantial increase in train traffic on the Orange County Line (OCL) between Fullerton and Laguna Niguel. Currently, about 70 trains per day operate over this segment of the OCL. An additional 66 commuter trains will be added between Fullerton and Laguna Niguel with the service expansion. Several additional Metrolink, Amtrak and BNSF trains are also projected to be added to this number. In total, over 145 trains per day are expected to use the OCL. These trains represent a 206% increase in Metrolink service, and a 130% increase in total passenger train volume along the Los Angeles-San Diego (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor over the next two years. At that traffic level, the OCL will become one of the busiest two main track rail corridors in the nation.

J.L. Patterson and Associates, Inc. was tasked to provide design services for the MSEP. The project scope includes the concept design and related tasks.
